What is the difference between leave and let?

Leave means “to allow something to remain behind.” Let means “to permit.”
  • The librarian will leave some books on display but will not let us borrow any.
Extra Examples:
  • What time are we going to leave tomorrow?
  • If one of us has to leave, I'll go.
  • I was just getting ready to leave the house.
  • Standing, she turned to leave the room.
  • Why should she leave it now?

  • Let him decide the matter for us.
  • Then one of the fishermen said, "Let us ask the governor about it and do as he shall bid us."
  • Do not let him go to sea.
  • Let us have a good old song that will help to keep us warm.
  • But come, children, let us have our supper.
