leave/let
What is the difference between leave and let?
Leave means “to allow something to remain behind.” Let means “to permit.”
- The librarian will leave some books on display but will not let us borrow any.
Extra Examples:
- What time are we going to leave tomorrow?
- If one of us has to leave, I'll go.
- I was just getting ready to leave the house.
- Standing, she turned to leave the room.
- Why should she leave it now?
- Let him decide the matter for us.
- Then one of the fishermen said, "Let us ask the governor about it and do as he shall bid us."
- Do not let him go to sea.
- Let us have a good old song that will help to keep us warm.
- But come, children, let us have our supper.
